Shabby Chic Christmas Wreath DIY
You may have noticed by now that I enjoy making wreaths. I just love how simple they are to make and how they can be 100% customized to fit your style. This time I made a shabby chic Christmas wreath with a little something special – lights! I used the LED Warm White Mini String Lights from Oriental Trading (I received them for creative inspiration) because they were perfect and don’t need to be plugged in. They take 6 AA batteries and even have a timer setting so you don’t have to worry about the batteries dying so quick.
Shabby Chic Christmas Wreath Materials
I kept materials to a minimum for this project, in order to stick with the shabby part of shabby chic. Here’s what I used
- 1 floral ring
- burlap
- faux berry mini garland
- festive ribbon
- hot glue
- lights
I just wrapped the burlap around the floral ring, but you can bunch it or style it however you wish. I kind of wish I did a bunching instead, but I’m still happy with how mine came out. I used hot glue to secure the burlap at the start and randomly throughout the wrapping process.
Then, I used the berry garland to add a pop of color by wrapping it around until it ended. I secured the ends and sporadic spots with glue and then did the same with the string lights.
I’m really, really bad at bows, but I used some festive Christmas ribbon to try to make one. I ended up just squishing and fluffing to give it a more appealing look. I’m sure you’re much better at bows than me, so share your secrets, please!
I used the string lights to wrap around the battery box and secure that to the wreath. I didn’t want it hanging down because that’s just unsightly. This way it’s still easily accessible, and out of sight. I also didn’t add a tie hanger like I usually do, I wanted it simple, so I just stuck the Styrofoam on a nail and voila. Whataya think?
