Pizza Stuffed Peppers
A long, long time ago there was a little girl who loved visiting her grandmother. One of her earliest memories was like most memories with grandmas, food. This was a special, magical food. Not only because it was made with love but because I can still remember how amazing that food tasted. Each time I would visit I would beg her to make that amazing spaghetti that I loved so much. And she did. It wasn’t until I was out in the world on my own that she taught me her secret. Ragu® Pasta Sauce.
Over the years whenever I have a recipe or craving that calls for pasta sauce I reach for a jar of Ragu. Lately, it’s been Ragu Homestyle because my grandmother approves. In fact, just last week I was in the kitchen staring at a jar of Ragu Homestyle Roasted Garlic and some peppers. The problem was I was really craving pizza. So I did what any pizza loving girl with less than a peck of peppers would do. I put the pizza in a pepper!
My grandmother applauded me for the creativity before questioning my judgment. In the end, she actually enjoyed it and went in for seconds. The peppers are tender and the filling is amazing. I give full credit for that to Ragu, their sauce is truly simmered in tradition. No other jarred sauce compares in my book.
Ragu has so many recipes on their website that you just have to try some! After you try this one, of course 🙂 Head over to the Ragu website and let me know what your favorite recipe is and what sauce you just have to try!
Pizza in a Pepper
Ingredients
- 3 - 6 bell peppers
- 2 tbsp. minced garlic
- 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey
- 1 jar Ragu Homestyle
- 1 - 1 1/2 cups of your favorite pizza toppings
- 2 cups Italian Blend Cheese
Instructions
Bring a pot of water to a rapid boil.
Cut the tops off of the peppers and remove the seeds and excess flesh from the inside.
Boil the peppers for 5 minutes and immediately place them in ice cold water. Let them chill for about 10 minutes then remove them, set them aside and allow them to dry.
Cut strips from the removed pepper tops and saute them with the garlic until they're tender.
Add your meat to the pan and cook thoroughly. Drain any fat from the pan and add the sauce.
Allow the mixture to simmer for 15 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 300F.
Add pizza toppings to the heated mixture and simmer for 3 - 5 minutes, stirring often.
Fill the peppers with the mixture and top with cheese. Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese begins to bubble.
