The biggest difference between the two is that traditional gumbo is actually served with rice. (however, since this is keto gumbo, we’re leaving out that ingredient!)

Is gumbo supposed to be spicy?

This is what makes gumbo so good! If you want to make spicy gumbo, make it. If you don’t want it to be spicy, it doesn’t have to be at all!

Ingredients for this Slow Cooker Gumbo Recipe

  • Boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • Shrimp
  • Smoked sausage
  • Celery
  • Onion
  • Red bell pepper
  • Minced garlic
  • Tomato paste
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper

How to make this Keto Gumbo Recipe

One bowl of gumbo just isn’t going to be enough! You’re not going to find a slowcooker gumbo recipe easier than this!

Place all of the ingredients into the Crockpot.

Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. 

Serve alone or over cauliflower rice if desired.

What goes good with gumbo?

Since this gumbo recipe is low carb, we need to be sure that we’re pairing it up with other low carb dishes. Some delicious side options or pairings for gumbo could be:

  • cauliflower rice
  • side salad

If you’re not worried about eating low carb or have kids that need a bit more, you can serve up cornbread or hushpuppies as well! One of the best things about cooking gumbo is that it really does pair up with just about anything that you want to serve it with.

Can you freeze gumbo?

You bet! If you have a large amount leftover that you’re not going to be able to eat, don’t waste it! You can easily add it to a freezer-safe container and store it for later. There’s no doubt that the gumbo craving will hit again in a few months so you might as well have some ready and waiting!

This low carb gumbo is delicious and so great to share!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs. Boneless skinless chicken thighs cut into pieces
  • 1 lb. Shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb. Smoked sausage sliced
  • ½ C. Celery chopped
  • ½ Onion Chopped
  • 1 Red bell pepper chopped
  • 3 tsp. Minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. Tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp. Cajun seasoning
  • 1 Can diced tomatoes
  • 1 C. Chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients into the Crockpot. 
  2. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. 
  3. Serve alone or over cauliflower rice if desired.
