8 Mood Boosters When You’re Down

When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year….

Is the Friends theme song stuck in your head now? Could this be the first step to lifting your spirits today?!

When you’re feeling down you can experience a lot of other emotions too. They’re not usually good ones, so the best thing to do is find a way to lift yourself up. Notice I said lift yourself; if we can’t depend on ourselves who can we really depend on?!

Everyone has their own ways of dealing with day-to-day life, but if you’re looking for some mood boosters these may help.

Crank up the music! This is the first thing I do when I notice I’m feeling down. I go to my ‘Cheer Up’ playlist and hit shuffle and play. I shared my favorite mood-boosting songs earlier, so check that out while you’re here. The best thing about music in this day and age is it’s portable.

Hit the road! Going for a walk, a jog or a run is a healthy option for cheering up. Exercise releases endorphinswhich give you that feel-good feeling. Not to mention fresh air has never been so sweet as when you’ve been in a funk.

Let your inner artist out! Art comes in so many forms that each of us has at least a little artistic talent inside of us. Whether it’s painting, drawing, composing or playing music, writing, or baking – do something creative and bask in the glory of accomplishment. If you are into drawing, you can enhance your skills with these tips from easydrawingguides.com

Get lost in something! Sometimes the best way to cheer yourself up is to make yourself forget. I love getting lost in a good book, movie, or TV series. I’ve also been known to play games for hours just to keep the world outside of my head. This isn’t a permanent solution, but it can definitely give you some relief while you wait.

Pet something! It has been scientifically proven that petting animals causes a release of all kinds of feel good hormones. If you don’t have a pet yourself you can visit a local shelter and show some love there. If you enjoy it you can possibly volunteer to add even more furry love to your life (without the long-term commitment.)

Make a bucket list! We all have a list of things we want to do before we die, what’s on yours? Whip out the pen and paper, yes – old-fashioned style – and write out the things you want to do. Skydiving? Swim with sharks? Spray tan? Fill your list with everything you can think of that you want to do but haven’t. Don’t just write two or three things down, really fill that paper out. It’s for your eyes only so don’t be ashamed or embarrassed. A bucket list can be very fun!

Work through your bucket list! We didn’t write all of that without a reason! There’s no better time than now, I’m sure it was someone famous who said that but I don’t want to search for it now. If you can’t do anything on the list right this second then make plans to fulfill your dreams. Call and make appointments, fill in your day planner, whatever it takes.

Phone a friend! Sometimes, not always, all it takes to cheer us up is to hear a friendly voice or see a friendly face. Just knowing someone is there makes a world of difference. If you are having trouble finding that friendly voice or face then you can search for a support group either locally or online. There are definitely people who can relate to what you’re going through, and they want you to reach out as much as you want them to. Why not take that first step?
